Ask Rob

Welcome to the "Ask Rob" blog. I've been blogging about, studying and working with Numerology for over 10 years. My primary focus is on the methods in which Numerology can be utilized to help you live your life fully and consciously. By incorporating a study of Numerology into your own personal practice you can find many benefits that may be applied to all  areas of your life.  In my own practice I have focused in on my feelings around my Life Path and Destiny numbers. These numbers represent my authority and creativity. I've been working with them and including art in my process. As I was working, I remembered reading the Roald Dahl book called "Danny the Champion of the World".

The story was one of the best, most moving and most powerful childhood books that I ever read. It's about a father and son capturing hundreds of pheasants before a big pheasant hunt. It really reminds me of the lengths that my own parents went to reach out to me, especially through coaching baseball. I feel that the story and my process was about connection and the yearning for it. In the story Danny is a bit of an outcast, but ultimately finds himself and becomes "Champion" by being inventive and daring. The book inspired and encouraged me toward really being creative and to become an avid reader. When I returned to school that year I had read so much that I was able to skip a whole reading  level. Because of remembering this story I have incorporated pheasant symbolism (new beginnings,  passion, power, creativity) into my art, especially through mask making.

Utilizing Numerology along with your own favorite tools and techniques, such as art therapy, Tarot, Yoga, the Enneagram, Mandalas and Voice Dialogue can help you to more clearly see yourself and facilitate with the integration and development of the different aspects of your self. Numerology can best be used as a guide or framework around which you work with your tools of choice.

A good place to begin working with Numerology is by developing an understanding of your Core Numbers.  Later, you can begin to work with it as a divination and forecasting tool. With the forecasting tools that Numerology provides you can look ahead to the cyclic patterns of your life. Your  Personal Year Number is one forecasting method that helps to illustrate the opportunities and challenges that you can face in the current year. After you develop an understanding of your Personal Year Number you can then begin to incorporate ritual into your own spiritual practice that help you to more effectively progress through your year.

I encourage you to use Numerology in a way that best supports you in your own personal growth, planning and decision making. Don't simply find your personal numbers and stop at the initial learning. Try to develop a relationship with your personal numbers and discover what they really symbolize for you.

Exercise: Numerology and Letting go

Letting go doesn't have to mean giving up, rather it can be about freeing up space within your life for new possibilities. It can be about taking conscious and positive action. For many people the process of letting go can begin when they understand that resisting change, or holding on to certain relationships is self limiting and requires too much time, effort and energy.

Of course, letting go of your unhealthy or non-supportive relationships might not be an easy process. We often become connected to others who are similar to people from our past, such as our parents, siblings and guardians. Sometimes, these relationships are loaded with dependency issues or other problems and they do not support us. And, at certain times we can fall back into our old habits. This is where working with and honoring the Shadow can be of benefit, as we're often unable to accept our own power or are blind to our own limiting patterns.

Numerology and Love - Part 1

With this article we'll focus on the physical and intimacy aspect of compatibility, but we will also look at emotional, spiritual and mental compatibility.

Now, only you can determine which aspect is most important for yourself. You may need a partner who can be deeply intimate. However, you may find yourself drawn to a partner who is deeply spiritual and has less of a need for intimacy. You'll have to discuss with your partner your needs and desires, or your they may never have a true chance of being fulfilled. The only real and honest way you can know if you're compatible with a partner is to first know which areas of compatibility matter most to both of you. Once you've determined if your needs can be met it will be more apparent as to whether you can be compatible.

Refusal of the Call

"Refusal of the summons converts the adventure into its negative. Walled in boredom, hard work, or culture, the subject loses the power of significant affirmative action and becomes a victim to be saved." -- Joseph Campbell, The Hero With A Thousand Faces

Refusal of the Call

The hero, upon hearing and feeling the power of the call to his/her new adventure, may at first hold back. He/She may be unwilling to take what may seem like a risky course of action and hesitate or be pensive about making any unnecessary changes in his/her life. He/she may feel alone and reluctant. Or, the hero might even consider himself/herself to be relatively happy and comfortable. There really are many reasons that may contribute to refusing to answer the Call. Personal responsibilities may hold the hero back from stepping forward. Perhaps "making waves" and enacting change is more frightening than leaving things as they are. Perhaps, stepping into the unknown seems foolish and risky. Perhaps, they simply do not see any value in the adventure.

Supernatural Aid - Finding a Mentor

For those who have not refused the call, the first encounter of the hero journey is with a protective

figure (perhaps an old crone or man) who provides the adventurer with amulets against the dragon forces he is about to pass." -- Joseph Campbell

Supernatural Aid/Finding a Mentor

After the hero has accepted the Call, and is just beginning to embark on his/her adventure the hero will receive a gift of some kind that will be of practical use during the adventure. The gifts that the hero receives will probably be something that they would not have acquired on their own. The gifts can include things like rings, swords, maps, books, some special object to be used at the right time or important clues/information.

Numerology, Story and Myth

"The struggle for existence is a struggle "for" something; it is purposeful and only in so being is it meaningful and able to bring meaning into life." --Viktor Frankl

Numerology can be an extremely useful and vital resource in searching for meaning within our lives. For me, it's used in part of a continuing process in which I am answering the calling of my soul. Now you probably can't compare your own life with the harrowing experiences that Viktor Frankl encountered, but hopefully you will have gained some insights into yourself, through your own victories, accomplishments, upsets and difficulties. Through your own personal experiences you probably have learned to foster hope, faith and inspiration for yourself and others. Fostering hope enables all of us to make and bring change into our lives and to find meaning and value for ourselves.

The Hero's Journey

"The call to adventure signifies that destiny has summoned the hero and transferred his spiritual center of gravity from within the pale of this society to a zone unknown. This fateful region of both treasure and danger may be variously represented: as a distant land, a forest, a kingdom underground, beneath the waves or above the sky, a secret island, lofty mountaintop, or profound dream state; but it is always a place of strangely fluid and polymorphous beings, unimaginable torments, superhuman deeds and impossible delights." -- Joseph Campbell, The Hero with a Thousand Faces
